DB police arrest accused Mojid from Dhaka
Detective branch police yesterday arrested labour secretary of Awami League town unit Abdul Mojid from a house at Dhanmondi in connection with the killing of Jubo League leader Sajed Parvez Jadu.
Mojid, also secretary of Rangpur Motor Shramik Union, had gone into hiding immediately after the murder of Jadu, joint convener of Jubo League town unit.
Jadu was murdered on October 16 night allegedly by Apel, Dulal Chandra, Chand Miah and Phul Badsha, hired goons of Mojid.
Earlier, police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Apel, Dulal Chandra, Chand Mohanta, and Phul Badsha from different areas of the town.
During primary interrogation, they confessed to killing Jadu at the instruction of Mojid, sources at police of Kotwali PS said. Enmity developed between Mojid and Jadu following a dispute over share of a tender of Water Development Board, they said.
Superintendent of police Saleh Mohammad Tanveer told this correspondent that Mojid was arrested from a house at Dhanmondi in the capital city in the evening. A team of DB police arrested him and they were on their way to Rangpur.
Meanwhile, locals at town's Babu Para continued demonstration demanding arrest and punishment of Mojid. Rangpur shop owners association observed a half-day hartal on October 27 demanding arrest of Mojid.
