BNP leader held on fraud charge in Moulvibazar
Police on Monday arrested Baralekha upazila BNP general secretary Darad Ahmed on charge of fraudulently taking away Tk 6 crore from a Japanese national.
Meanwhile the upazila BNP removed Darad from the party general secretary post hours after his arrest.
Baralekha police said Darad was interrogated jointly by Moulvibazar and Baralekha police yesterday before being sent to court.
According to an allegation, he took Tk six crore from Professor Kajuo Azoma promising to construct the 'Japan Bangladesh Cultural Centre' in Baralekha upazila of Moulvibazar district in 2005-2010. But he is yet to construct any such centre in the upazila till date.
In the meantime, Professor Kajuo Azoma passed away. His wife Kaiko Ajoma recently submitted to the prime minister a written allegation of cheating against Darad Ahmed.
After this, Baralekha police on Monday arrested Darad Ahmed from Baralekha upazila headquarters.
Md Alamgir Hussain, senior assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Moulvibazar said during the interrogation Darad denied the allegation of the Japanese national.
Darad Ahmed is the son of late Abdur Rahim of Bahadurpur village under Talimpur union of Baralekha upazila in Moulvibazar.
