Two-day Bhawaiya festival ends
The two-day Bhawaiya festival ended at Rangpur Town Hall yesterday. The festival is regarded as an important cultural event in the promotion of traditional regional music of Rangpur division.
Rangpur Bhawaiya Academy organised the 'Bhawaiya Music Festival' to observe the 110th birth anniversary of the folk music legend Abbas Uddin Ahmed.
Bhawaiya songs are very popular in the region. For many years now, North Bengal, especially Rangpur division, has become famous for Bhawaiya songs. The songs speak about various aspects of life. The genre is a common platform, which attracts people of all ages, religions and income groups. Fans from the region were present in full strength.
It is estimated that over 8,000 Bhawaiya fans attended the two-day festival.
Shahnaz Parvin Shyamoli, wife of the Mayor of Rangpur City Corporation AKM Abdur Rouf Manik, was present as chief guest at the concluding ceremony. Md. Faruk Aziz was present as special guest. Among others present on the occasion was Azizul Islam, secretary general of Bhawaiya Academy, Dhaka.
The concluding ceremony was presided over by the president of Rangpur Bhawaiya Academy, Advocate Rejeka Sultana Fancy.
To celebrate the event, renowned artistes, from all eight districts of Rangpur along with Dhaka, entertained a huge crowd at Rangpur Town Hall.
