In its campaign against the war crimes trial, Jamaat-e-Islami organised a seminar yesterday at Oxford University, UK under the banner of Bangladesh Crisis Group.
John Cammegh, one of the defence lawyers for Jamaat, was the key speaker at the seminar titled "The Bangladesh War Crimes Tribunal and International Law in South Asia" held at Nissan Lecture Theatre in St Antony's College of the university.
Initially, the title of the event, as circulated, was "Bangladesh War Crimes Trial: Justice or Betrayal?".
On May 19, a similar event was organised in Washington DC with John Cammegh as a panel speaker and US War Crimes Ambassador Stephen Rapp as the key speaker along with Caitlin Reiger of International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ).
Jamaat-e-Islami has been very systematic in its campaign against the ICT on both sides of the Atlantic with little response from the Bangladesh government.
