50 injured as rival villagers lock in clash
At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Hasnabad bazaar in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district on Wednesday.
Locals said there was a long running conflict between Sadrul Islam and Mizanur Rahman over establishing supremacy at Hasnabad bazaar. The hostility between the two took a serious turn recently following firing of eight teachers of local Hasnabad Madrasa.
Local people said a noisy argument and scuffle took place between Sadrul and Mizanur over buying fish at the bazaar in the afternoon. Later, their supporters equipped with lethal weapons and sticks attacked each other leaving over 50 people injured from both sides.
Seriously injured, Sadrul Islam, 46, Nizam Uddin, 30, Maulana Tazul Islam, 30, Haji Kadrul Islam, 60, Azad Mia, 42, Mizanur Rahman Amru, 40, Rafiq, 40, Shamsu Mia, 18, Alim Uddin, 18, and Raisul Islam, 40, were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Among other injured Dudu Mia, 45, Samsu Mia, 58, Jasim Uddin, 17, Islam Uddin, 16, Azad Mia, 50, Zakir, 18, Khurshed, 37 and 4 others were admitted to Chhatak upazila health complex.
