Khaleda's remarks 'contempt of court'

A parliamentary committee yesterday said the recent remarks of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia against former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque are “tantamount to contempt of court”.
The standing committee on the ministry of law and parliamentary affairs at its meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban also called upon the authorities concerned to take lawful action against Khaleda if she fails to withdraw her statement and beg unconditional apology to the nation for her malicious remarks.
Suranjit Sengupta, the committee chairman, chaired the meeting.
The recent verdicts of Justice Khairul will remain as a milestone before the nation with regard to maintaining dignity of the constitution and establishing solemnity of the judiciary, the committee members observed.
Besides, the meeting finalised the Legal Aid (Amendment) Bill-2011 for passage in the Jatiya Sangsad.
State Minister for Law Md Qamrul Islam, Md Fazley Rabbi Mia, Fazle Noor Taposh, among other committee members, were present in the meeting.
