Rape victim dies

A teenage girl who was violated twice died at Namar-char in Dhamrai yesterday after fighting for life in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for two months.
Shumi, aged 15, was violated first in March 2010 by three local men including one Rafique. The three were arrested and charge-sheeted but came out on bail. Rafique then again violated the victim on February 2011, said Officer-in-Charge Jahangir Hossain of Dhamrai Police Station.
At this point Shumi became pregnant and had an abortion on June this year, but caught an infection. She was admitted to DMCH on June 17, he added.
