Keep open customs on Aug 28, 30
Business leaders in Chittagong have urged the government to keep open Chittagong Custom House and banks associated with customs activities on August 28 and August 30 to save them from losses.
Mahbubul Haque, acting vice-president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), made the urge in a statement yesterday.
Haque said the customhouse will remain closed during Shab-e-Qadr and Eid-ul-Fitr for four days, but a huge jam of ships has already been created in the port, forcing the importers to pay extra money due to overstay there. The importers have to face loss for this, and they are bound to increase the price of imported goods which directly affects the consumers in retail market, he added.
So the government high-ups should take necessary steps for keeping the customhouse and associated banks open on the days, said Haque. He sought cooperation of the finance minister and NBR chairman in this regard.
