Eto'o joins Anzhi
Cameroon star Samuel Eto'o will undergo a medical here on Wednesday before signing his three-year contract with big-spending new Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.
An Anzhi spokesman said that the four-time African player of the year would join the team at their training camp this week after the highest-profile transfer ever in Russian football.
Eto'o's move from the glitzy Italian city side of Inter Milan to the club from the war-torn Caucasus region of Dagestan reportedly makes him the highest paid player in world football.
"We will present Eto'o to our fans ahead of our next home match," Anzhi's general manager German Chistyakov told the Russian media.
"We expect Samuel on Thursday to start preparations for our next match at Rostov. He will live in Moscow and train with the team at our base in the Moscow region."
For security reasons, the players live and train in Moscow and fly to Makhachkala, a city on the Caspian Sea that is often the scene of militant attacks, for home matches.
The protracted transfer saga between Inter Milan and Anzhi Makhachkala ended late Tuesday when the Russian side announced that the two clubs had agreed terms.
"Today Anzhi and Inter reached agreement on the transfer of Samuel Eto'o," read a statement on Anzhi's official site. "The transfer sum suited both sides," it added.
It said that Eto'o will undergo a medical Wednesday before signing his contract.
The head of the the ProSport Management company German Tkachenko, who represented Anzhi at the negotiations with Inter, said that the Cameroonian forward's fee would be lower than the 20 million euro ($29.6m) a year, which was earlier reported by the press.
Meanwhile, Alexander Udaltsov, Anzhi's official spokesman, told the press that his side have reached a 21-million-euro deal with the Italian giants.
The 30-year-old Eto'o is the most decorated player in African history, having won the Champions League three times -- twice with Barcelona and once with Inter.
He also won three league titles with Barca and one with Inter, while with Cameroon he has twice won the Africa Cup of Nations. He began his career with Real Madrid before loan spells with Leganes, Espanyol and Real Mallorca.
Anzhi were outsiders in the Russian league before the start of this season.
