Doctor beaten up by Jubo League leader in Pabna
A doctor at Santhia upazila health complex was beaten up yesterday by a local Jubo League leader.
Police arrested the accused after the doctor filed a case but the ruling party men are pressing to the victim to withdraw the case.
Police and hospital sources said, joint secretary of Santhia upazila unit Jubo League Prodip Kumar met Dr Farid Ahmed, medical officer at the health complex yesterday noon, to receive treatment.
As the doctor asked him to collect ticket from the counter, Prodip became angry and beat up the doctor mercilessly, inside his office room, said Dr Monsurur Rahman, upazila health and family planning officer.
Doctors and the nurses at the health complex rushed to the spot and rescued him, he said adding that the attack has generated a sense of anger among the doctors, nurses and staffs of the hospital.
Later, the victim filed a case with Santhia police station accusing the Jubo Legaue leader.
In the case, the complainant claimed that the accused beat him up inside his office room while on duty, said SM Bazlur Rashid, officer in- charge of the police station.
“We arrested the accused from near the hospital yesterday afternoon and he was later sent to jail,” the OC said.
Meanwhile, the ruling party men yesterday started pressing the complainant to withdraw the case, hospital sources said.
This correspondent tried several times to talk to Md Abdul Jalil, president of upzila unit Jubo League for his comment but failed to get response over phone.
Contacted, district unit Jubo League president Md Sarif Uddin Prodhan said he is not aware about the incident.
He, however, said that organisational steps should be taken against the accused if he was found guilty.
