Magath livid at wrong call
VfL Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath has demanded the introduction of video officials in Germany after the referee admitted he was wrong to disallow a goal as Wolves were beaten 1-0 at home by Bayern Munich on Saturday.
"If four referees are not able to assess a scene properly, then it's time for the television evidence," fumed Magath after his side went down to a 91st-minute goal from Brazil midfielder Luiz Gustavo.
Magath was angry after German league referee Knut Kircher ruled ex-Germany striker Patrick Helmes was off-side when he looked to have scored with a header in the 40th minute.
"I thought it was a legitimate goal," said Magath after replays showed Helmes was not offside.
Kircher later admitted on German television that he had made a mistake and the goal should have stood.
"We have seen the replays on television. It was a mistake as the player wasn't offside," said Kircher.
But Kircher was cautious when asked if he thought video referees should be introduced by football's governing body FIFA.
"Until video referees are introduced, it is not something we can talk about," he said.
"As referees, we are not able to decide something like that."
