CWAB vocal against amendment
Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), an association of former cricketers, has started their campaign to keep former cricketers' councillorship rights at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
In its first move the CWAB members held a meeting recently and as per the decision from the meeting the organisation gave two letters to the board yesterday.
“We gave one letter to BCB president (AHM Mustafa Kamal) where we requested him to give us time for a meeting so that we can discuss the issue, while the other we gave to all directors with a request not to approve the bill,” informed Debobrota Paul, general secretary of CWAB.
BCB's constitutional amendment committee, led by Dewan Shafiul Arefin, proposed to delete the clauses 9.3.8 and 9.3.9 -- which allows former cricketers the right to become councillors of the board -- from the board's constitution.
The proposal, if approved, will ensure that former cricketers will have no role in policy decisions made by the board
“It's just in the preliminary stages and we believe the directors will keep our rights intact in the constitution. It would be unfair to remove the clauses,” Paul added.
He also said that the CWAB will be waiting for the response from the board and after that they will set their next course of action.
