Voting underway in Michigan presidential primary
Polls opened across Michigan early yesterday where Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney faced a make-or-break battle in his lagging White House campaign.
Romney, whose father once governed the northern state, was in a tight contest with Senator John McCain, who won the state in 2000 and headed into the Michigan vote buoyed by his strong showing in New Hampshire.
An average of Michigan opinion polls by RealClearPolitics.com showed Romney and McCain locked in a statistical dead heat.
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee came third ahead of other candidates, such as Rudolph Giuliani, who have largely ignored the state.
