Road accidents kill five
At least five people were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Munshiganj and Tangail yesterday.
UNB reports: Two people, including a bank official, were killed in a road accident at Shantinagar crossing in the city yesterday morning.
The bank official was identified as Lutfar Kabir Talukder, 35, an employee of Grameen bank. Identity of the other deceased could not be ascertained immediately.
Police said a Banani-bound human-hauler of Bandhu Paribahan ploughed through a footpath and turned upside down on the road at about 8:00am when its driver lost his control over the steering, leaving the two passengers seriously injured.
Locals rushed them to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.
A case has been filed with the Ramna Police Station.
Another reports from Munshiganj adds: A woman and her eight-year-old son were killed and five others injured when a bus rammed into an auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Chittagong highway near Meghna-Gomti bridge in Gozaria upazila yesterday.
Police said the accident occurred when a Comilla-bound bus hit a Daudkandi-bound auto-rickshaw from behind at about 10:00am, leaving passengers Shilpi Begum, 28, and her son Hridoy, 8, on the spot.
Five other passengers of the auto-rickshaw, including its driver, were injured in the accident. The injured were rushed to different local hospitals.
Our Correspondent in Tangail adds: A youth was crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck at Tangail Sadar yesterday morning.
The accident took place at around 6:00am when a Dhaka-bound speeding truck hit the youth while he was crossing the busy Dhaka-Tangail highway in Khudirampur area, killing the youth on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Identity of the youth, aged about 25, could not be known immediately.
