Call for fight against drug abuse
Pro Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University (CU) Dr Md Alauddin yesterday warnings on cigarette packets are a wrong way to discourage smoking and the government must impose a ban on marketing cigarettes.
He urged people to organise social movement against drug abuse.
He made the call at a seminar organised by Unesco Clubs Associate, Chittagong at Chittagong Club auditorium.
Khushi Mohan Biswas, director of Department of Narcotics, said now there are 50 lakh drug abusers in Bangladesh. This number is reducing as supply of drugs is lessening, thanks to an anti-illegal drug agreement with India, he said.
Dr Jadu Das Gupta, director of Unesco Academic Development Project, CU Prof Dr Nani Gopal Das, Dr SM Sarkar and Prof Nil Ratan Das Gupta spoke at the seminar, presided over by Ikbal Dobhash.
