Lawmaker accused of violating poll code
Two chairman aspirants on Wednesday lodged complaints with the deputy commissioner of Panchagarh against the lawmaker from Panchagarh-2 constituency for his alleged involvement in campaigning for AL backed candidates in Boda and Shakoya unions of Boda upazila.
Khairul Alam, chairman candidate of Boda Union Parishad, alleged that lawmaker Nurul Islam Shujan attended a meeting of Awami League backed chairman candidate Syed Abdul Mannan at Mondallerhat village in the union at around 9:00pm on May 29.
In that meeting, Shujan ordered local AL men to work for Syed Abdul Mannan. Otherwise, he said development works in the area would be hampered.
Khairul Alam urged the authorities concerned to take necessary measures to ensure a free, fair and neutral election to Boda Union Parishad.
Another complainant Md Rabiul Alam Prodhan, who is in the election race for chairman post of Shakoya Union Parishad under the upazila, alleged that lawmaker Shujan gave TR allocation to AL backed candidate Sayeed Jahangir to distribute among the voters.
Contacted, lawmaker Nurul Islam Shujan said as president of AL district unit he met the leaders and activists of local units and discussed organisational matters with them.
