Kurigram teachers donate to Sidr relief fund again
Teachers and other employees of all non-government schools, colleges and madrasas in Kurigram are donating money
to create a fund for rehabilitation of Sidr victims.
Donations are being collected as per a decision taken at a meeting of UNOs of all nine upazilas, representatives of educational institutions and other officials, held on December 25 at the office of Kurigram Deputy Commissioner. The DC presided.
An amount of Tk 500 is being collected from college teachers getting salary less than 7,200 and Tk 300 from those getting less than 6800, sources said.
Schoolteachers and other employees of colleges and schools have been asked to donate Tk 200 each.
UNOs of nine upazilas have been asked to collect the money from in their respective areas.
A teacher of Razarhat Women College on condition of anonymity expressed his reservation about the decision. He said non-government teachers have already donated one day's salary for relief to Sird victims.
He said the UNO, who is president of the governing body of his college signed their salary papers yesterday (Tuesday) on condition that they would pay the donation today (Wednesday).
Principal of Bhurungamari Upazila Degree College Muku Choudhury said, he issued notice on teachers and employees to donate the money by today (Wednesday).
The National University has also asked all degree colleges to pay money to the relief fund Sidr victims opened by the university.
Principal of Nageshawri Degree College Saydul Islam said, he has already collected money from the college staff and handed it over the UNO.
Asked about the decision, teachers are not compelled to donate to the fund. They are donating spontaneously, he said.
