2 factories fined for pollution

A mobile team of Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined two factories Tk 36 lakh on charge of polluting agricultural land and rivers by discharging toxic liquid in Bhagirothpur area in Narsingdi.
The team, led by Munir Choudhury, director (Monitoring & Enforcement), also served show cause notice on four other factories for the same reason in the Sadar upazila.
The team conducted the drive and found the factories guilty and fined Tk 25.80 lakh to Unilon Textiles Ltd and Tk 9.95 lakh to HM Textile Ltd for not setting up effluent treatment plants (ETP).
The court also served show cause notice on KT Dyeing and Finishing Mill, Bright Textile Industries, Micro Trade and Index Plaza to set up ETPs.
