Gift books on Pahela Baishakh
Speakers at a programme yesterday urged all to gift near and dear ones with books on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla year 1418, says a press release.
Gifting books on the occasion should turn into a social custom, they observed.
Philosophia School in association with Bangladesh Non-government Public Library Federation and Narayanganj Shudhijon Pathagar organised the programme in the city's Bangladesh Economic Association meeting room.
Shaptahik 2000 Editor Mainul Ahsan Saber was present as the chief guest while Mohammad Ishak, president of the federation, presided.
Saber inaugurated the programme by handing over books to three children.
Noted writer MA Momen, the federation General Secretary Syed Akram Ali Akhidul, the pathagar Director Muhammad Aiyub, and Chairman of Philosophia School Mohammad Hatem also spoke.
Under the programme, books wrapped in a packet bearing a slogan “Present books to near and dear ones on Pahela Baishakh” etched on them were sent to different people and organisations of the country.
