Criminals shoot couple

Criminals shot a leader of a local assembly and his wife in their home at South Keraniganj on the city's outskirts for protesting against drug peddling.
The victims Arman Miah, 52, vice-president of the local panchayat committee and his wife Shafia Akhter, 48, were admitted to Mitford Hospital.
Arman was shot in his arm while his wife sustained bullet wounds in her abdomen, hospital sources said.
Local goon Shah Alam and his armed cohorts invaded his house around 12:00pm and fired indiscriminately, injured Arman told The Daily Star.
The incident occurred following an earlier feud between Arman and Shah Alam said Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge (OC) of South Keraniganj Police Station.
No case was filed and none was arrested, the OC said.
