Robber killed in mob beating in Gazipur
A robber was killed and two others were injured in a mob beating at Birujali in Kapasia upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, son of Abdul Baten of Lohadi village in the upazila.
Police said a group of 7/8 robbers were preparing to commit a robbery by placing logs on Dhaka-Kapashia-Kishoreganj road at about 4:00am.
As a patrol police team was passing by the area, the robbers, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, fired shots, which prompted the cops to fire back.
Anwar received bullet injuries on his leg during the gun battle.
Local people rushed in and caught three robbers, including Anwar and gave them a good beating while others managed to escape.
Police arrested the injured bandits-Anwar, Ekhlas, and Rubel--and sent them to upazila health complex where Anwar died yesterday morning.
Two sharp weapons, one machet, one dagger and three knives were recovered from the spot.
In Noakhali, police, in separate drives, arrested a robber and seized two light guns, bullets and hemp from two houses at Lautoli village in Senbag upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrestee was identified as Nizam, son of Nurul Haque of the village.
Police said, on secret information, they raided the house of notorious robber Dulal of the village and recovered a bullet-loaded LG. Dulal was not present during the raid.
Later, the same team conducted another drive at the neighboring house of Nurul Haque and arrested his son Nizam and recovered one LG, four bullets, a few home made lethal weapons and five kgs of hemp from his possession.
Police said Nizam was a member of an inter-district robber gang and wanted in four robbery cases.
