Woman kills herself 'to escape abuse'

A woman allegedly committed suicide at East Rasulpur of the city's Kamrangirchar on Saturday night.
Sadia Akhter, 21, hung herself from a ceiling fan to escape the perpetual abuse by her husband and in-laws for dowry, alleged her father, Mohammad Hanif.
Her husband, Khalil, a clothes trader, used to torture Sadia since they got married two years ago, he said.
Sadia locked herself in her bedroom around 5:00pm, said Golam Rasul, sub-inspector of Kamrangirchar Police Station, quoting Khalil.
They broke open the door around 8:00pm and informed the police. The body was sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for an autopsy yesterday, the SI said.
Police will take steps after the autopsy is performed, he added.
An unnatural death case was filed in this connection.
