Syria willing to meet people's wishes
Syria will make "important decisions" to meet the wishes of the population, Buthaina Shaaban, media advisor to President Bashar al-Assad, announced yesterday.
"Syria will witness important decisions to fulfil the aspirations of its people," Shaaban told reporters in Damascus.
"The people will participate in decisions and in decision-making," she added.
The announcement comes as Syria is hit by unprecedented protests against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, whose Baath party has ruled Syria for 40 years.
The protests, which began earlier this month in the capital Damascus, have mainly been centred in the southern city of Daraa.
More than 100 people were killed by police gunfire in Syria's southern protest city of Daraa on Wednesday, human rights activists and witnesses said yesterday.
