Don't dispose waste into rivers: Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the owners of industries not to dispose of industrial waste in rivers for the sake of protecting environment.
"Industrial waste is polluting our rivers. . . so you should remain alert so that waste of your industries does not pollute river waters," she said.
The prime minister was talking to the local elite and businessmen after formal inauguration of two rental power plants with a total capacity 202 MW and foundation laying of another 360-MW power plant here yesterday afternoon.
Hasina said her government has a plan to construct container terminals in the commercial towns and improving rail, water and road communications to facilitate smooth transportation of products.
She said her government has been working relentlessly for improving living standard of people in line with its election manifesto to build a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.
In this context, she referred to various programmes undertaken by her government for ensuring overall development of the country.
She said it is a great success of her government that it added about 14,00 MW electricity to the national grid in last two years. She said the past BNP-Jamaat government could not produce a single megawatt of electricity during its five-year term.
