Birthday of Bangabandhu observed with due respect
National Children's Day and 91st birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in the city as elsewhere in the country yesterday with a call to try war criminals.
Many socio-political and professional bodies organised elaborate programmes including discussions, painting competitions and colourful processions.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote; Bangabandhu Gobeshana Parishad; Jatiya Sramik League; Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Parishad; and Sonali Bank Limited placed wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation in the city's Dhanmondi.
Bangladesh Private Medical Practitioners Association held a free medical and blood donation camp in front of Bangabandu Smriti Museum in the city.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote; Palli Daridra Bimochon Foundation Karmachari Union and Bangabandhu Gobeshana Parishad organised separate discussions.
Marking the day, Patua Kamrul Hasan Art School organised a painting and reciting competition and award giving ceremony for children in the city's Central Public Library premises.
Aparajeyo Bangladesh, an organisation working with disadvantaged children, held a meeting and cultural programme at Anwata Udyan in the city's Farmgate, calling for policymakers' attention to ensure child rights.
Bangladeshi missions across the globe also observed the day. The Bangladeshi Embassy in Kuwait organised an art competition and a discussion, a press release said.
