Our children our pride
As a part of my job assignment, recently I visited cyclone Sidr affected Sarankhola upazila of Bagerhat district. We were a team of Bagerhat Red Crescent volunteers, IFRC Bangladesh employees and Danish Red Cross delegates. Our purpose was to assess the need for psychosocial support. We went to the south most village of Sarankhola called Bogi, adjacent to Sundarbans. We conducted different focus group discussions with women, adolescents, young children and men.
It was interesting to observe that many children and adolescents were expressing their sadness over the loss of their textbooks that were destroyed by the devastating cyclone. One of the most important things that would make them happy would be their textbooks.
Observing this, I felt extremely proud that our children in a cyclone affected remote village are holding their head high and wanting to read books, especially during this time of crisis!
I believe we shall overcome this disaster in due time.
