Monajatuddin had true love for country

Shankar Lal Das, Golachipa correspondent of the Daily Janakantha, was awarded 'Charon Sangbadik Monajatuddin Smirti Award-2006' for his series of investigative reports on 'life and livelihood of char people'.
Monajatuddin Smirti Sangsad organised the award giving ceremony on the occasion of the12th death anniversary of journalist Monajatuddin.
TIB Trustee Board Chairman Prof Muzaffer Ahmad handed over a crest and economist Dr Atiur Raman handed over a cheque for Tk 25,000 to Shankar.
Speaking as chief guest Prof Muzaffer said Monajatuddin had a true love for the country. He used his pen as a sword, he added.
Shawkat Mahmud, president of Jatiya Press Club, said he did not hesitate to reveal the truth.
Dr Atiur said we need journalists like Monajatuddin for the development of marginalised people.
Dhaka Union of Journalists Presidnet Altaf Mahmud, Kartik Chaterjee of the daily Sangbad also spoke on the occasion.
