Forming Truth Commission would be unfortunate
Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) President Ferdous Ahmad Quarishi yesterday said it would be unfortunate if the Truth Commission is formed.
"They [corrupt people] will take revenge if stern actions are not taken against them," he said adding that the corrupt people who smuggled thousands of crores from the government coffer must be tried.
He was addressing a press conference at the party office at Segunbagicha in the city. Party leaders were also present on the occasion.
Praising former adviser Ayub Quadri for his resignation due to the theft of the artefacts, he said everyone should have morality and responsibility.
Asked whether housing adviser should resign for the failure to take quick actions to recover the bodies from Rangs building following the collapse of a portion of the building, he said, "I don't want to mention anyone's name but all should have morality.”
In reply to another question, he said, “People hope that the government will implement the roadmap to hold a free and fair election.”
He also urged the government to find out non-partisan officers for holding important posts in the administration before the election commences.
Paying tribute to the recently assassinated former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto, he said Pakistan-like situation would not be created in Bangladesh as the army is only assisting the government here.
