658 shops, restaurants fined in 9 months

Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection realised Tk 59.68 lakh as fine from 658 shops and restaurants in 112 markets of the city during 71 drives in the last nine months.
This was informed at the directorate's fifth meeting at its conference room in the city with Commerce Minister Faruk Khan in the chair, says a press release.
It was told at the meeting that the drives, starting on April 6, raised people's awareness level. Retail price and expiry date are now being mentioned on the packets of some products, which were not done before. The fine was imposed under different sections of Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.
Commerce Secretary Golam Hossain, Directorate General (DG) Abul Hossain Mian, BSTI DG AK Fazlul Ahad and CAB President Kazi Faruk were present.
