Record Russian arms sales in 2007: Dy PM
Russian arms exports were worth a record seven billion dollars (5.5 billion euros) this year, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov said Monday.
"Since 2000 our arms exports have nearly doubled and in 2006 we hit the record sum of 6.5 billion dollars. This year we have a good chance of passing the seven-billion-dollar mark," the Ria Novosti news agency quoted Ivanov as saying.
"These figures "confirm Russia's dominant position among arms exporters," Ivanov said.
According to the head of the federal service for military technical cooperation, Mikhail Dmitriyev, the biggest sellers during the year were the Sukhoi and MiG fighter jets, Mi helicopters and T-90C tanks.
"The companies that produce the S-300 and Pechora anti-aircraft missiles have orders up to 2012 which indicates their popularity," he said.
