BDR, BSF talk issues
Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) yesterday agreed to contain cross border crimes and resolve other issues through talks.
Border guards of the two neighbouring countries reached the agreement at a battalion commander level meeting at Bhomra land port in Sadar upazila.
Matters relating to killing and kidnapping innocent Bangladeshi nationals, smuggling of arms, explosives and drugs, cross border trafficking of women and children, insurgency, different criminal activities besides confidence building measures came up for discussion in the meeting.
In the meeting, BDR alleged that BSF men kill Bangladeshi cattle traders along border areas off and on instead of arresting them.
However, BSF officials showed positive attitude in resolving disputes through talks by holding flag meeting, a BDR official said.
Officials of both the border guards agreed to resolve major disputes through discussion and by taking necessary measures on time, he said.
Commanding Officer Lt Col Enayet Karim of BDR 41 Rifles Battalion at Satkhira and BSF 47 Battalion Commanding Officer Dhirendra Kumar at Kalyani in India led their respective teams.
