Key Bangladesh missions exceed export target

Although most of the Bangladesh missions abroad could not achieve their target, key missions like Washington, Berlin, Ottawa, Madrid, The Hague, London and Paris exceeded their export target in the first quarter of current fiscal (July-September).
The actual export earnings for July-September of 2010-11 was US $ 5029.05 million, 12.33 percent higher than the target of US $ 4477.00 million, and also 29.58 percent more than that of the corresponding period of the last fiscal.
Out of the 44 Bangladesh missions, 21 achieved their respective export targets while 23 missions failed to achieve the target set for them, according to the latest statistics provided by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The well-performing 21 missions are in Hague, Berlin, Seoul, Ottawa, Muscat, Hanoi, Canberra, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Riyadh, Dubai, Brussels, Moscow, Pretoria, Tashkent, Washington, London, Stockholm, Singapore, Madrid and Paris.
Although 23 missions could not achieve their export target for July-September of current fiscal, the export growth of 16 missions was higher than the corresponding period of the last fiscal (2009-10).
These 16 missions are in New Delhi, Tripoli, Nairobi, Amman, Manama, Beijing, Kathmandu, Islamabad, Doha, Manila, Rabat, Tokyo, Ankara, Cairo, Tehran and Thimpu.
However, the export growth of six missions in Tripoli, Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo and Yangon was lower than the corresponding period of the previous year (2009-10) while one mission (Brunei) failed to make any export during the July-September period of fiscal 2010-11.
Out of the 16 commercial wings at Bangladesh missions abroad, 10 achieved their respective export targets while the rest fell short of the target set for them for July-September 2010-11.
The commercial wings achieving their export target are Moscow, Washington, Berlin, Canberra, Ottawa, Paris, London, Brussels, Madrid and Dubai.
Of the 6 commercial wings not able to achieve their export target for July-September, export growth of 4 commercial wings in Beijing, New Delhi, Tokyo and Tehran was higher than the corresponding period of 2009-10 fiscal.
The growth rate of the other two commercial wings in Kuala Lumpur and Yangon was lower than the corresponding period of the previous year (2009-10).
Analysing the EPB statistics, it was found that the 21 missions achieving their export targets fetched US $ 4253.78 million in the July-September period of current fiscal while the 23 missions that could not achieve their targets earned US $ 711.43 million.
Of the overall export earnings, Washington mission accounted for US $ 1303.03 million, Berlin US $ 771.00 million, London US $ 501.76 million, Paris US $ 294.87 million, Madrid US $ 208.21 million, Ottawa US $ 224.50 million and Stockholm US $ 160.79 million.
However, the earnings of 10 commercial wings achieving their target totaled to US $ 3549.46 million while the 6 commercial wings that could not achieve the target earned US $ 303.98 million during the three-month period.
