Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday met with Japanese Emperor Akihito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo yesterday.
“We are happy for your visit to Japan,” Emperor Akihito said during the meeting.
He praised the progresses being achieved in the industrial and agricultural fields under the present government of Bangladesh.
The emperor recalled that as crown prince in 1975 he and his wife visited Dhaka and met with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan AKM Majibur Rahman Bhuiyan was present.
'VISIT FRUITFUL'
The prime minister has termed her tri-nation visit to Russia, Belgium and Japan very fruitful in the perspective of increased foreign assistance.
Addressing a reception at Hotel New Otani yesterday evening, she said Bangladesh's friends will continue to assist her government for accelerating the economic progress.
Hasina mentioned the Japanese government's announcement of additional $100 million for construction of the Padma Bridge.
Besides, she said Bangladesh has also been assured of getting relaxed rules of origin of GSP on knitwear.
She informed the Bangladeshi expatriates about her meetings with the Japanese emperor and the prime minister, the Russian prime minister and the European Union leaders.
Hasina will leave Tokyo for home this morning.
