Sugarcane crushing starts in two mills

Two mills in Panchagarh and Jamalpur started crushing sugarcane on Friday.
According to our Thakurgaon correspondent, Panchagarh Sugar Mills went into production on Friday afternoon.
Lawmaker of Panchagarh-1 constituency Mazharul Haque Prodhan inaugurated it as the chief guest at a function on the mill premises.
The production started in time and the season saw a bumper sugarcane production in the district this year, said officials.
Managing Director (MD) of the mill ABM Arshad Hossain said the production target was fixed at 6,000 tonnes by crushing 80,000 tonnes of sugarcanes.
He said the farmers have cultivated sugarcane on 8,525 acres of land against a target of 10,000 acres this year which is higher than the previous year.
Last year sugarcane was cultivated on 5,850 acres of land in the district and 4000 tonnes of sugar was produced by crushing 65,000 tonnes of sugarcane.
Over seven crore taka was distributed among the farmers to boost sugarcane cultivation. Besides, about one crore taka was distributed as subsidy among Space Trans Plating (STP) cane farmers under the sugar mills, the MD said.
Director (Planning & Development) of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation Nurjahan Begum, also additional secretary, was present as the special guest at the function with ABM Arshad Hossain in the chair.
Our Jamalpur Correspondent reports: Sugarcane crushing at Dewanganj Jheal Bangla Suger Mill in the district started on Friday evening.
Lawmaker of Jamalpur-2 constituency Alhaj Faridul Haque Khan Dulal inaugurated the 53rd crushing of the mill throwing sugarcane into the cane-career.
The mill authority this season fixed a target to produce 9,600 metric tonnes of sugar by crushing of 1 lakh 20 thousand metric tonnes sugarcane, officials said.
Chaired by Managing Director of the mill Abdul Khalek, Faridul Haque Khan MP was chief guest at the function. It was also attended by Ashraf Ali, secretary, sugar and food industries corporation, Islampur upazila chairman Abdul Bari Mandol and UNO of Dewanganj upazila Aminul Haque.
