Prime accused on 4-day remand

A Kushtia court yesterday granted four days' remand to Zahidul Islam Zahid, the prime accused of bomb attack inside the house of Awami League lawmaker Afaz Uddin Ahmed on the night of November 13.
Police produced Zahid in the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, seeking a seven-day remand. Judge Abdullah Al Mamun granted four days.
The bomb attack inside the house at Taragunia under Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia left three people killed and two others injured.
After the incident, Afaz Uddin's son Ejaz Ahmed filed two cases with Daulatpur Police Station---one under the Explosives Substances Act and the other for murder-- accusing eight people, including Siddiqur Rahman and Ahadul Islam, who carried bombs to the lawmaker's house and were also killed in the blasts.
Police arrested Zahidul soon after the incident. Two other accused in the cases--Jamirul Islam Moru alias Boma Moru and Azharul Islam Mintu-- were later arrested.
Moru was arrested on Friday night at Walia village under Lalpur upazila of Natore district while Mitu on Saturday on the confessional statement of Moru.
During preliminary interrogation, Moru admitted to his involvement in the bomb attack, police said.
