3 murdered in city

Three people were stabbed to death yesterday at Pallabi, Dakkhin Khan and East Jurain in the capital.
The dead were identified as Zakir Hossain, 32, Mohammad Shawkat, 60 and Mamun Hossain, 17, a factory worker.
Police recovered Zakir's body from his neighbour, Jasimuddin's house early yesterday and arrested Jasim for allegedly being involved in the killing.
Zakir was an electrician and lived at Mollartek in Dakkhin Khan.
Three months ago, he had lent Jasim Tk 50,000 for business purposes on condition that he would pay Zakir a portion of his profit.
Jasim returned Tk 10,000 a month ago but was dilly-dallying to pay the rest of the money and did not share a part of his profit with Zakir, Billal Miah, a cousin of the deceased, said. They had frequent arguments about the issue, he added.
Last night, Jasim called Zakir at his place to settle the matter where another argument ensued, resulting in Zakir's death.
Officer-in-charge of Dakkhin Khan Police Station said, a murder case was filed in this connection and they have arrested Jasim.
Jasim has confessed that he and his accomplices had stabbed Zakir at one point of the argument, he added.
Meanwhile, in another incident at Mirpur Bihari Camp, Mohammad Shawkat was hacked to death allegedly by a gang of illegal drug peddlers early yesterday. The gang led by Kallu forcefully entered Shawkat's house around 3:00am and severely injured him.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he died at around 10:00am yesterday.
Shawkat's nephew Mohammad Sayeed said, local drug peddlers had filed a case against Rashed, another nephew of the deceased on October 8, which enraged Shawkat.
“My uncle was actively working to eliminate illegal drug trading in the area and was determined to oust the criminals with the help of the locals,” he said.
Officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station said they have arrested Kallu.
Mamun Hossain, worker of an iron factory, was stabbed to death at East Jurain last night.
Abdur Razzak, who took Mamun to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said he found Mamun lying in a lane shortly after 9:00pm.
Doctors at the hospital declared Mamun dead at about 10:00pm, he said.
Unidentified criminals attacked Mamun while he was returning home in the area from his workplace, said Ibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kadamtoli Police Station.
He said Mamun got involved in an altercation with some of his friends in front of the factory a few days back.
Meantime, a group of three youths fired shots at a guard of a housing company at Mirpur-11 at about 10:00pm leaving him seriously injured.
Police said the youths, who went to the company's office to meet its owner Parvez Raman, shot the guard, Manzurur Rahman Manzu, near Alpha Tower following an altercation with him.
Manzu was taken to the DMCH.
