Three sued for felling roadside trees

Three people have been sued for felling roadside trees on Satkhira-Assassuni road in Sadar upazila on the night of October 9.
The accused are Ainul Haque Nantu, Abdul Malek and Abul Hossain of Puratan Satkhira in the town. After investigation, police filed a case against the three with Sadar Police Station on Tuesday night.
Police said Ainul Haque Nantu and his two accomplices Abdul Malek and Abul Hossain of Puratan Satkhira in the town felled down two mahogany trees on the southern side of the road near Ramchandrapur village at dead of night.
They kept the trees inside a sawmill owned by Pranab Kumar Saha of Dhulihar Bazar the same night.
On receiving information, Havildar Abdul Hai of Itagachha police outpost rushed to the spot and found the three at the sawmill. He did not arrest them as they denied their involvement in felling the roadside trees.
After investigation, police found involvement of Nantu, Malek and Hossain in the criminal act and filed a case against them. They also seized the trees from the sawmill on Tuesday night.
Officer-in-Charge Shah Jahan Khan of Satkhira Sadar Police Station said no one is allowed to cut roadside trees without prior permission of the government.
