HC extends stay order by 20 days
The High Court (HC) yesterday extended for 20 days its earlier order that stayed the government decision cancelling the parole of Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The court also directed Koko, now in Bangkok for treatment, to file a fresh application along with his medical documents to the Ministry of Home within the days for granting him parole again.
The government may consider his application for parole, it said.
An HC bench of Justice MA Wahab Miah and Justice Quazi Reza-ul Hoque came up with the verdict after disposing of a writ petition filed by Koko.
Earlier on August 19, the home ministry cancelled the parole of Koko, and asked him to return home by August 31 and surrender before court.
Koko filed the writ petition with HC on August 24 challenging the government decision to cancel his parole.
On August 26, the HC issued a rule upon the government to explain why its decision to cancel the parole of Koko should not be declared illegal.
The court also stayed the government decision of cancelling the parole of Koko.
Barrister Rafique-ul Huq and barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and barrister Nasir Uddin Asim appeared for Koko, while Additional Attorneys General MK Rahman and Murad Reza represented the government.
