4 BCL men sued for threatening WDB engineer
Water Development Board (WDB) authorities Thursday night filed a case against the four Chhatra League leaders and activists who issued threats to the WDB executive engineer for not allowing them to drop tenders after the deadline.
Police arrested one of the BCL leaders that night in this connection.
Khalilur Rahman, executive engineer of WDB, Chapainawabganj, filed the case under the Speedy Trial Act with Chapainawabganj Police Station around 10:00pm against the four BCL activists and unidentified six to seven others, said Ahsanul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
The four accused are Rakibul Hasan Biru, 30, acting president of BCL, district unit; its sports secretary Monirul Hossain Bakul, 28; BCL activists Abdul Hakim, 35, and Shahid, 30, of Hujrapur.
Police arrested Bakul around 10:30pm.
In the case statement, the plaintiff said the deadline for dropping tenders for a Tk 35 crore repairing work of the two-kilometre embankment on the river Padma was 1:00pm on Thursday. After the time was over, the authorities opened the tender box at 3:00pm. At that time the BCL men led by Biru entered the office of the executive engineer and demanded that they should be allowed to drop schedules. As the engineer refused them, they threatened him and broke the glass of the table in the room.
Police deployed at the office forced the BCL men to leave the place. After the incident, additional law enforcers were deployed at WDB office, said the OC.
The executive engineer said a total of 341 schedules were dropped for the repair work.
