2 Ctg factories fined for polluting water
The Department of Environment (DoE) fined two factories at Pahartali and Khulshi in the city yesterday for polluting water and air.
A DoE team led by Director Munir Chowdhury (monitoring and enforcement) awarded financial penalty of TK 9 lakh to the factories in a drive under Operation Prevent Environment Crime.
Lizz Washing a washing cum dying factory of North Pahartoli, was fined Tk 6.5 lakh for polluting water with chemical waste. The factory was running without environmental certificate for the last nine years, sources said.
The mobile team realised the penalty money and directed the factory authority to install effluent treatment plant (ETP) immediately, sources added.
The team also fined Epic Readymix and Concrete Products, a construction material factory in Zakir Hossain Road at Foy's lake, Tk 2.5 lakh for causing air and noise pollution in the residential area.
The team directed the factory authority to shift the factory outside the residential area and install equipments to reduce pollution before the shift, sources said.
