<i>All for protesting stale food supply</i>
At least 10 students of Noakhali Paramedical College were injured as the students in charge of running the college dining hall beat up them yesterday morning for protesting supply of stale and low quality food.
Following the incident, the authorities closed the college for seven days. Principal Prof Abdul Quader said the academic council took the decision in an emergency meeting at noon, according to UNB.
Seriously injured first year students Hasan, Ayat, Rubel and second year student Motaleb and third year's Ripon were admitted to Noakhali General Hossain while the rest given first aid.
The students undergoing treatment at the hospital told this correspondent that low quality food had been supplied in the dining hall for quite some days. General students had altercations with the students in charge of running the dining hall several times over the matter.
They alleged that a group of students led by second year students Nayan, Saikat, Rubel, third year students Iqbal, Sabuj and first year's Kausar and Bulbul entered the rooms of the general students in the morning and beat up them with hockey sticks. They also damaged the doors, windows and furniture of the rooms of the general students, they said
Contacted, Principal Prof Abdul Quader said action against the students involved in the incident will be taken after investigation.
Additional police have been deployed on the campus to avert any further untoward incident.
