BDR jawan dies in hospital
A Bangladesh Rifles jawan, an accused in BDR mutiny case, died at a city hospital in Mohakhali on Thursday night.
Shafiqul Islam, 55, a habildar of 13 Rifle Battalion, Pilkhana, expired around 9:00pm at the hospital where he was undergoing treatment since July 19.
His body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Morgue for autopsy yesterday morning. The body was taken to his family in Meherpur in the afternoon.
Shafiqul's relative Rafiqul Islam said the border guard had a tumour in his right arm and he was receiving treatment for it.
"But his proper treatment was not done after he was arrested," he alleged, adding that the tumour turned into cancer because of lack of treatment.
Shafiqul lived in Pilkhana mess and his family in Meherpur, said Rafiqul. Before his admission in the hospital he was in Dhaka Central Jail.
The jail authorities said the BDR habildar had long been suffering from cancer and he was given treatment in several hospitals to this end.
