Class boycott at Comilla Medical College
Academic activities of Comilla Medical College at Kuchaitoli in Sadar upazila were disrupted on Tuesday due to boycott by students.
Classes and first year examinations of the college could not be held as the students protested attack on them by the outsiders.
Locals said, four people, including an employee of Nurjahan Hotel at Padua Bazar Biswa Road, were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital after being injured in a road accident at 11pm on Monday.
An altercation between members of 'medicine club' of the hospital and relatives of patients ensued as latter went to the club for blood.
Later, one of the wounded Sumon died due to lack of blood.
Angered over the death, some people from Nurjahan Hotel went to the medicine club and locked in an altercation and scuffle with students, leaving two club members injured.
Later, members of medicine club and other students chased the relatives of patients and drove them out.
The angry students also damaged six private ambulances and two microbuses at the college campus.
RAB and police later brought the situation under control.
Meanwhile, college principal Prof. Dr Mohammad Ataur Rahman on Tuesday night filed a case with Kotwali model police station against 20/25 unidentified people accusing them of attack, theft and ransacking.
Rasheduzzaman, owner of Nurjahan Hotel, on Tuesday night also filed another case against 30/40 unidentified people accusing them of vandalizing vehicles.
