BNP procession August 9
The main opposition party BNP will bring mass procession on August 9 in the capital as part of its current anti-government movement.
Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, also leader of the opposition in parliament, will lead the procession, which would be started from Paltan Maidan.
Khandaker Delwar Hossain, secretary general of the party, formally announced the programme on Tuesday at a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan central office.
He urged the government to show democratic attitude and expressed the hope that the procession would not be obstructed.
Delwar urged the leaders, workers and supporters of his party and its associate bodies to make the programme successful.
The programme will be observed to protest repression on the opposition, press for the release of arrested BNP leaders and workers and protest the kidnapping of DCC ward councillor Chowdhury Alam.
Earlier, the party had announced the programme of mass hunger strike for July 25 but could not observe, as the authorities did not give permission to use Paltan Maidan for the programme.
