Kabaddi Mela kicks off
Bhuapur beat Kalihati 33-14 points in the inaugural match of the Meizan Kabadi Mela that began in Tangail Stadium yesterday.
The Mela started with a colourful rally that was started from the stadium in the morning and paraded through different streets in the town. The Mela will end in Feni.
Six districts, Kalihati, Bhuapur, Basail, Madhupur, Ghatail and Tangail, are taking part in the event.
Bangladesh Edible Oil Ltd (BEOL) in association with Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation organised the tournament across the country for the first time, to revive the country's national sport.
Tangail Superindent of Police Mizanur Rahman inaugurated the event as the chief guest while the event was presided over by Acting Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Tangail Mohammad Tajul Islam as the special guest.
Tangail Football Association president Fazlur Rahman Khan Faruque, BEOL marketing manager Faria Yasmin, and secretary of Tangail District Sports Association Kazi Zakerul Maula were also present during the ceremony.
On occasion of the Mela, there were on-stage games for visitors and games such as lidu, balloon shooting and dart for children. Besides, a free eye testing camp, several stalls of local handicrafts, clothing, food, and ceramic collection were also in the Mela.
Faria Yasmin, marketing officer of (BEOL) said they organised the Kabadi Mela to encourage and uphold Kabadi, country's national sport, as part of the country's national ethnicity and heritage.
