Make EIA report public
The GoB has decided to go ahead with the construction of deep seaport near Sonadia Island an Ecologically Critical Area (ECA). A Japanese consultancy firm Pacific Consultants International had done the environmental impact assessment (EIA). The EIA report should be made public so that people from all walks of life get a better understanding of the environmental issues addressed in the EIA report.
We are not against development but destroying a pristine natural habitat without actually knowing the value of the natural/ecological services that it has been providing from time immemorial will be a blunder a mistake that may hardly be forgiven by our future generations. Doing things or taking a decision knowing fully what will happen in the long run due to this large-scale developmental activity will be a wise step. I draw the kind attention of our decision makers to read the following article-http:// www.ioseaturtles.org/pom_detail.php?id=93 - and then decide.
I would urge that the honourable prime minister to review the matter SERIOUSLY and NEUTRALLY and make the EIA report public.
