Arrestee suspended, wife absconding

Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila food inspector Shafiul Alam Tokdar, arrested on June 3 on charge of killing a domestic help, was suspended on Monday.
His wife Towhida Ara Tokdar, headmistress of Teesta KR Khadem Government Primary School under Sadar upazila, has been absconding since the incident on the night of June 2.
Domestic help Dulali Khatun Alo, 12, daughter of rickshaw van puller Mozammel Haqaue, was tortured to death allegedly by her master Shafiul Alam Tokdar and his wife Towhida Ara Tokdar at their residence at Teesta village in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila at midnight on June 2.
Following a case filed by the victim's father with Sadar Police Station against Shafiul and his wife on June 3, police arrested Shafiul. They (police) could not arrest Towhida as she had gone into hiding soon after the incident.
Mozaffar Hossain, chairman of Teesta KR Khadem Government Primary School, said headmistress Towhida Ara Tokdar has remained absent since June 3. "We have informed the upazila education officer of the matter and urged him to take necessary steps in this regard."
Contacted, acting education officer of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila Azmal Hossain said he has sent a letter to the higher authorities concerned, seeking permission to take necessary actions against the headmistress.
"I shall take action against the headmistress as per order of the higher authorities concerned," he said.
