Disgruntled ruling party men assault officials
Ruling party men assaulted three government officials for taking up some projects ignoring their proposals in Sadullapur and Gobindaganj upazilas of the district on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Leaders and workers of Sadullapur upazila Awami League and Jubo League beat up Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Shaharul Islam Abu Hena in his office room on Wednesday as he allocated 75 tonnes of wheat for different development projects under Food for Work Programme without consulting them.
The PIO said he prepared the projects as per instruction of the local lawmaker. After the incident, he (PIO) filed a general diary with Gobindagnaj Police Station.
On the same day, Damodorepur union Awami League secretary Sayeedur Rahman assaulted assistant land officer Abdur Razzak for not submitting a list of the houses to be built at Damodorepur cluster village to him.
Sadullapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ariful Haq said such undesirable incidents will hamper the implementation of the development projects. He said both the incidents are being investigated.
On Tuesday, Abdul Latif Prodhan, president of Gobindaganj upazila Swechchasevok League, assaulted upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Abul Kalam Azad for taking up a project under Food for Work Programme, ignoring his proposal.
The PIO has taken up the project to repair the breached portion of a dike in the upazila. Protesting the incident, the government officials and employees of Gobindagnaj upazila observed work stoppage for three hours from 1:00pm on the day.
