Call for proper treatment, rehabilitation of fire victims
Social, political and cultural organisations yesterday expressed profound shock at the loss of huge lives in a devastating blaze in the city's Nimtoli area on Thursday night.
They also called for proper treatment of the injured people and rehabilitation of the fire victims.
In a statement, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) president Manjurul Ahsan Khan and general secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim said illegal and unplanned construction of buildings are responsible for such disasters.
They called for launching immediate drive against such buildings and strengthening the capacity of Fire Brigade to control blaze.
In another statement, Gono Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain and general secretary (acting) Advocate Subrata Chowdhury demanded steps to ensure proper treatment of the injured people.
In a statement, Acting British High Commissioner Duncan Norman said, "We are very saddened by this tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected."
Jatiya Party Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju called on the government to take steps to rehabilitate the victims of the fire.
Jatiya Samajtrantik Dal and Peshajibi Samannay Parishad in separate statements also expressed deep shock and demanded payment of compensation to the affected families.
Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) chairman Andaleev Rahman the entire nation is shocked at such a horrible incident.
He demanded proper investigation into the incident and punishment to people responsible for the disaster.
Sammilito Samajik Andolon urged the countrymen to launch a social movement to raise awareness to prevent such incidents.
Zaker Party organised a special prayer and doa mahfil seeking salvation of the departed souls.
