Abdullah ousts Asif
Abdullah Hel Baki dethroned champion Asif Hossain Khan to win the 10m Air Rifles gold in the 24th National Shooting Championship at the Gulshan National Shooting Complex yesterday.
Baki scored 693.2 out of 709 to finish ahead of Asif despite having trailed by two points in the start of the shot-off where he made 103.2 out of 109.
However, Asif, who was dropped from Bangladesh's squad for the ISSF World Championship in July following his poor performance in the Indo-Bangladesh Bangla Games and the Common-wealth Shooting Cham-pionship earlier this year, improved a bit to shoot 592 in 600 points, but slipped in the middle of the shot-off and finish with a score of 97.4 out of 109.
Asif had to be content with a total score of 689.4 and a silver medal while Anjan Kumar Singh finished third with a score of 682.8 points.
New champion Baki was ecstatic to have won gold for the first time in national meet.
"I had a long dream of achieving gold medal in the national championship and the dream came true though I could not put my best," said Baki.
Baki hopes to improve his performance and do well in the upcoming Common-wealth Games in India and Asian Games in China.
